Josh Gibson
Catcher/Outfielder, Homestead Grays of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Crawfords.
Josh Gibson was born on December 21, 1911 near Buena Vista, Georgia. He died on January 20, 1947, as his luck would have it, a few short months before the integration of Major League Baseball. In Negro League history and folklore he is one of three Negro League players favorably compared to Babe Ruth. Not a few argue that he was the greatest slugger in Negro League history. In a 17-year career, he hit nearly 800 home runs and was the league batting champion in 1936, 1938, 1942 and 1945. He is said to be the only man to ever hit a home run out of Yankee Stadium.
